About Us

Greenbrook Elementary School has been recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence and has received two New Jersey Star School Awards. The central focus of the school is ""the school as community.” Students, staff and parents are united by a common commitment to creating a rich and inclusive environment.

The highly qualified and dedicated faculty works collaboratively to provide strong academic instruction, share successful practices and promote open communication. Specialists and classroom teachers work together to meet the needs of each child. In addition, the faculty frequently engages in discussions of current educational theory through grade level meetings and book study groups. The school is committed to the principles of the Responsive Classroom and the Coalition of Essential Schools. In addition, through our partnership with The College of New Jersey, our school serves as a Professional Development School. These ventures inspire the continuing growth of the professional staff.

Greenbrook School actively promotes parent participation. The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and School Site Council (SSC) are formal forums for parent involvement. These organizations work in collaboration with the administration and staff to provide meaningful opportunities for parents, students and staff to come together. Additionally, parents volunteer in the school and serve as chaperones on field trips. They can also serve on decision-making committees and participate in workshops and curriculum discussions. Parents are also encouraged to join us for our regularly scheduled Friday assemblies that highlight a particular class or grade level, participate with us for school-wide celebrations or support PTO sponsored cultural arts programs.

Our students are offered a variety of enriching activities that provide opportunities to participate beyond the core curriculum. Students have access to a full technology lab, so entire classes and smaller, select groups can work on specific computer skills and complete multimedia projects. Smart Board technology is used in many classrooms to enhance instruction. Children in fourth and fifth grade can also learn to play a musical instrument, join the band or orchestra, or sing in the chorus. Art, technology and yearbook are some of the clubs children may choose to broaden their interests. Students are showcased in grade level class productions and participate in school assemblies regularly. Our oldest students serve as Community Helpers, giving them opportunities to practice leadership and provide community service to the school. Enrichment support opportunities provide additional critical thinking, project-based experiences for our students. To enhance instruction and improve the auditory experience of our students, all of our classrooms are equipped with sound field amplification systems.

Greenbrook Elementary School is a community dedicated to the task of educating children to become life-long learners. Our school provides an environment where every student can learn, fosters self-esteem, and honors the diversity of its population.
